Morning temperatures hovering around minus seven degrees didn’t seem particularly conducive to convertible testing, especially for testing an exotic droptop sports car. But when some rare local seat time in a near-$200K 2018 Mercedes-AMG GT C Roadster becomes available for a few days, if it’s not snowing, then you’re not complaining.

Issue: On certain vehicles, the driveshaft may detach from the transmission flange. This could cause a loss of power to the drive wheels. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the drive wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, replace the carbon-fiber driveshaft.

Certain Roadster(convertible) models may have been built with incorrect software in the airbag control unit, and may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts. In the event of a lower speed crash, this could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than necessary, which could increase the risk of injury for an out-of-position passenger. Correction: Dealers will update and correct the airbag control unit software.

On certain vehicles, the seatbelt may bind within the seatbelt guidance loop. If the seatbelt were to bind, a slack in the seatbelt may develop, which in the event of a crash, may not restrain the occupant as intended, and increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will remove the spacer disc in the seat belt guidance loop and add an additional sliding component to guide the belt.
